CECH Scholarships


Each year the college awards scholarships to deserving students in all programs. The college awards two basic types of scholarships: merit-based and need-based.

Merit scholarships are awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the college who have demonstrated academic achievement.

Need-based scholarships are available to all students in degree programs in the college who qualify. Applicants seeking need-based support must have a financial aid application on file in the University Financial Aid office and be full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing.

The availability of funds for both types of scholarships is limited and award decisions are competitive. The scholarships available through the college are listed below. For additional information concerning scholarships, contact:

Scholarships

  • Aréte Scholarship Fund - to be awarded to women students majoring in Health Promotion and Education.
  • Bessie Allen Award Fund - to be awarded annually to a student-teacher whose rapport with and understanding of children are of the same high quality as Bessie Allen´s.
  • Bryson Endowed Scholarship Fund - to be awarded annually to graduate or undergraduate students in Secondary Education or Educational Administration. Preference shall be given to students majoring in English.
  • Cincinnati Paralegal Association Scholarship - to be awarded Spring quarter to a returning full-time paralegal student who demonstrates leadership potential and involvement in school or community activities.
  • Clara M. Van Hart Scholarship Fund - a scholarship based upon personality and scholarship, given to women already enrolled in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services.
  • Clarence and Marie Hunter Scholarship Fund - to be awarded to those students from the Greater Cincinnati area who are studying to become teachers.
  • Coggins Family Scholarship Fund - preference given to females who are returning or beginning the process for licensure in education.
  • College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services - to provide scholarships to students enrolled in the college.
  • Constance B. Madsen Assistance Fund - to provide emergency financial assistance to worthy graduate students in education. Priority will be given to students majoring in Special Education.
  • Constance I. MacLeod Scholarship Fund - to provide a scholarship to an outstanding student intending to teach at the kindergarten level.
  • David H. Massel Memorial Fund - to provide scholarships limited to Criminal Justice students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, with preference given to part-time graduate students focusing on law enforcement.
  • Delta Kappa Gamma Society - The Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Ohio State Organization, from time to time provides a fees award for an able and worthy student preparing for teaching.
  • Donald W. Ritter Scholarship Fund - to provide annual scholarships to full-time, matriculating students in the Criminal Justice program. Recipients shall be judged on strong character and financial need.
  • Dr. Ada Hart Arlitt Scholarship - to provide a scholarship to cover tuition and provide a stipend to a graduate student in Dr. Ada Hart Arlitt Child Development Center.
  • Education Alumnal Scholarship Fund - to provide scholarships based on academic performance.
  • Ellen Pease Sole Fund - will be awarded to a full time, matriculated student (or students) enrolled in the Early Childhood Education associate degree program, with both academic ability and financial need.
  • Gay Van Zandt Scholarship Fund - to recognize a student or students who best exemplify the qualities of a Student Ambassador. Students are selected for this award for their outstanding service to the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services and the University of Cincinnati while maintaining good academic standing.
  • Gene Carté Award for Outstanding Scholarship - has been established to honor the memory of Dr. Gene E. Carté, whose devotion to high standards of excellence in scholarship has inspired students and faculty. This award is presented each spring quarter to the senior student who best exemplifies outstanding scholarship and achievement in the field of criminal justice.
  • Grace Anna Fry Scholarship Fund - to be used for the Annual Kindergarten Alumnae Scholarship.
  • Grace E. Richardson Memorial Scholarship - to provide a scholarship fund of $100 in alternate years to a worthy student preparing for teaching in the upper grades of the elementary school.
  • Grooms Scholarship Fund - to be used for a yearly award to a woman specializing in school administration at the graduate level.
  • Hazel F. Gabbard Fellowship - to provide fellowships to support the study of human relations and multi-cultural programs and to support cogniture and school psychology.
  • Helen L. Coops Endowment Fund - to provide scholarships in women´s Health Promotion and Education.
  • Helen M. Fulton Scholarship Fund - for tuition and expenses to needy students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services who demonstrate scholarship, enthusiasm and respect for the university.
  • Helen P. Glimpse Scholarship Fund - for scholarships to students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services.
  • Ida J. Nolte-Cornelison and Florence E. Nolte Endowment Fund - to provide tuition scholarships for undergraduate or graduate students with a business focus, demonstrated financial need, and a stated commitment to teach in the field of Secondary Education.
  • Jacob and Jenny Lichter Scholarship - awarded to talented and deserving students with academic achievement.
  • Jane Ross Davis and Marjorie Littleford Ross Scholarship Fund - to be awarded to an incoming freshman student enrolled in a teacher education program within the College of Education, Criminal Justice, & Human Services, who is a resident of Kentucky, Ohio, or Indiana, with preference given to residents of Bracken, Campbell, Mason, or Pendleton counties in Kentucky and who demonstrates financial need.
  • Jeanette Bertram Chapman Scholarship Fund - shall be used for annual scholarships to full-time, matriculating students enrolled in programs at the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services preparing teachers of elementary age children. Recipients must have at least a B average. Donor´s preference is that awards will be given to, but not limited to, members of Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity.
  • Julia B. Champlain Scholarship Fund - to provide a scholarship to a second year student majoring in teacher education who has demonstrated the aptitude and promise for a successful teaching career in either first, second, or third grade of elementary education.
  • Kathyrn H. Hansen Scholarship Fund - to provide a scholarship for worthy and needy students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services.
  • Leith Memorial Scholarship - to provide tuition grants to students focusing in business education.
  • Lillian C. Sherman Scholarship Fund for Education - to be used to provide fellowships for graduate students in the teacher education division and related areas.
  • Lorraine E. Hendrickson Memorial Scholarship - to be awarded to students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services.
  • Louis A. and Chloe H. Pechstein Scholarship Fund - a fund for emergency financial assistance to students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services.
  • Madalyne Menger Scholarship Fund - provides assistance to students who are preparing to be teachers, who demonstrate financial need, and who have at least a B average.
  • Margaret G. McKim Memorial Scholarship Fund - to provide scholarships for students majoring in Early Childhood Education.
  • Margaret Kretschmer Scholarship Fund - to provide scholarships to deserving students who are pursuing a program in education of the hearing impaired.
  • Mary Louise Schroth - To provide assistance to full- or part-time graduate students who intend to teach in the field of English at the high school or college level, preferably in the urban setting.
  • Mary Louise Schroth Undergraduate Scholarship - to provide assistance to undergraduate students who intend to teach in the field of English at the high school or college level, preferably in the urban setting.
  • Melanie A. Schute Award - The Melanie A. Schute Award is given to a member of the graduating class who demonstrates sympathetic interpretation of child life and forward-looking professional spirit, promising to become an outstanding teacher of little children.
  • Mildred Ramsey Jones - to provide scholarships for full-time students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services.
  • Pearl M. Wright Award - awarded annually to an exemplary senior student studying in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services with a degree emphasis focusing on young children. This award includes tuition and fees, books, equipment, and professional development support.
  • Randall J. Condon Memorial Awards - The Randall J. Condon Memorial Awards are in the form of memberships in the Association for Childhood Education International for senior women who exemplify the ideals described in the Kindergartner's Creed.
  • Ruth Haskell Keller Pruden Scholarship Fund - to establish a scholarship fund for worthy and needy junior or senior students in Early Childhood Education.
  • The Frances A. Kemp Scholarship Fund - to provide scholarships for students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services who are concentrating their studies in the field of Early Childhood Education.
  • The Guthman Fund of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati - a scholarship fund to provide ten annual scholarships to first year students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services and who are residents of Hamilton County.
  • The Hazel N. Kemp Scholarship Fund - to provide scholarships for students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services who are concentrating their studies in the field of Early Childhood Education.
  • The Henry and Hattie M. Rollman Memorial Grants - to assist young students preparing to teach American youth. The grant must be used for teaching of American citizenship and government.
  • The Josephine F. and Justin A. Rollman Scholarship Grants - the qualifications for receiving these grants should be based upon: A knowledge of and interest in the perpetuation of the American Democracy; a belief in the maintenance and preservation of our form of government in the community, state, and nation; a genuine interest in the field of teaching and ability in intellectual pursuits.
  • The Louise Stevenson Foster Memorial Scholarship Fund - to provide a tuition grant of $100 in alternate years to a worthy student preparing for teaching in high school.
  • The Mildred Gieringer Bauer Scholarship Fund - to be awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students majoring in Secondary Education. Preference shall be given to students indicating a commitment to teach in the public schools at the junior or senior high school level without regard to subject area.
  • The Miriam Kemp Niederhauser Scholarship Fund - to provide scholarships for students in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services who are concentrating their studies in the field of Middle Childhood Education.
  • Theresa K. Kirby Memorial Scholarship Fund - to provide a partial tuition grant to a third or fourth year student who exemplifies the teaching ideals of the Early Childhood Education field.
  • Viola D. McComas Scholarship Fund - to provide scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled full time in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. Recipients must be able to demonstrate financial need and have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Whiting Scholarship Fund - three scholarships awarded annually, based upon academic performance. One student to be selected from the sophomore, junior, and senior class. This award is restricted to residents of Hamilton County.
  • William and Eleanor Bauer Scholarship - to be awarded to an Early Childhood Education student who has persisted despite obstacles.
  • William E. Climer Scholarship Fund - an award will be given for one or more scholarships to graduate students in Early Childhood or Secondary Education.
